D.Va vs Peni Parker (Overwatch vs Marvel Rivals) Ax'pire VS Blogs

"We're fascinated with robots because they are a reflection of ourselves.” - Ken Goldberg

D.Va, Overwatch’s pro gamer turned MEKA pilot.

Peni Parker, Marvel Rival’s mech suit wearing web slinger.

The world has seen all kinds of heroes from hulking giants to speedy gunwomen. But in these shooter games, none stand out as much as these two geeks turned mech pilots. Here at Ax’pire, we’ll be breaking down the pilots and their robots to answer the question of who would win in an all out robot riot.

Before We Start…

For D.Va, we will be covering both Overwatch games and their accompanying cinematics, along with any novels and comics the series has gotten.

As for Peni, we’ll be taking a bit of a unique approach for her and focusing exclusively on Marvel Rivals. Given the matchup’s theme focuses on their respective games and Peni has barely any actual comic content to talk about, we figured this would be more interesting and more fitting to cover for the blog. This means anything from the base game, its comics, or cinematics is fair game for her.

Background

Hana Song

“Time to save the world? Game on!”

Decades in the future, humanity had reached the pinnacle of robotic engineering, creating robots known as Omnics. While intended to better the world, these Omnics had been taken control of by a program known as Anubis, which turned Omnics against humanity, launching the start of a major war known as the Omnic Crisis. Omnics fought against humanity all around the world, but few had it harder than South Korea, which had been spending the past 20 years fighting an Omnic known as the Gwishin. Every few years after its defeat, the giant Omnic would return and adapt to what had previously beaten it. Originally Korea used drones to take it down, but the Gwishin adapted and began disrupting the network that allowed for control of the drones. Korea needed a back up plan, human piloted mechs, and so began the formation of the Mobile Exo-Force of the Korean Army or MEKA for short.  But who would pilot these mechs? Gamers… apparently, which would include one of the best in the world, Hana Song aka D.Va.

Growing up, games were always a massive part of Hana’s life, as she was introduced to them at a young age by her father, who had once been a professional gamer.  It was actually him who introduced Hana to StarCraft, a game she proved quickly to have a knack for and would lay down the foundation for her path to becoming a top Esports competitor. Even as early as high school, Hana quickly rose to be number 1 in the world, gaining herself a reputation for showing no mercy and being willing to win by any means.  Naturally when it came time to pilot a real mech to defend her country, she jumped at the opportunity, and proved to be shockingly good at the real thing.  She treated combat like a video game, fiercely competitive with the skills to back it up… and also began streaming her battles because sure, why not?

However, behind her competitive methods and cheerful personality, the battles began taking a toll on her mental state.  This was made worse after one particular operation in a thunderstorm where despite the team coming out on top, D.Va was the only to come out of the fight unharmed.  Instead of spending her downtime relaxing, Hana was preparing for the next mission, believing the weight of the country was now on her shoulders.  As if on cue, the Gwishin launched another attack, and this time, D.Va would have to fight solo against five enemies. Except she wasn’t alone, as her mech was pushed to the point of barely being able to function, ready to risk it all, Hana would finally turn to her friend Dae-hyun and they would work together to send her mech into self destruct, taking down the final Omnic in the process. Despite being caught by the ensuing explosion, Hana ultimately left the battle healed on the inside.

Months later, the squad would be fighting Omnics again, but this time it wasn’t the Gwishin, it was an Omnic terrorist group known as Null Sector.  Despite MEKA’s best efforts to fight back, they began getting quickly overwhelmed by the robots, and it seemed like it was all over.  That ceased to be the case quickly though as a dropship of a newly building group of heroes emerged to help win the fight, led by former Overwatch agent Cole Cassidy.  With the battle finally won, Cassidy revealed that he’d brought them there to see if MEKA was interested in working with a newly reforming Overwatch.  After being given permission from squad leader Captain Myung, D.Va would officially join Overwatch in their fight against Null Sector.  While the fights ahead are bound to be anything but easy, D.Va won’t just play to win… she will win.

Peni Parker

I'm here to finish the fight that my father began. I hope I make him proud.”

Across the multiverse, the Web of Life and Destiny weaves a fate for all, paths paved through hardships and loss, with Peni Parker being a shining example. Having lost her father, Peni had inherited the SP//dr mech from her father. While experimental, in time, she fixed it up and had allowed herself to be bitten by the Spider within and formed a psychic link with it.

Taking up the mantle of a hero, Peni picked up where her father’s legacy ended, becoming the hero that Tokyo Webworld needed. For years she served as its protector, until the day everything shattered. Time, the Multiverse, Everything; The Timestream Entanglement began. In a plan hatched by two Doctor Dooms, all timelines were combined and were threatened with destruction. Refusing to sit on the sidelines, Peni had joined a group of heroes from across time and space to save reality.

In an effort to fix the Web of Life and Destiny, Peni allied herself with several other heroes, believing that her way was the only way to save reality. She knew she must plug the Web into CyberSpace and take down anyone who stood against her. Her mission would put her in conflict with a hero who needs no introduction: Spider-Man, a hero that Peni believed was the alternate universe version of her father. Peter used his likeness to try and form a connection with Peni, succeeding in the wrong direction, only driving her to escalate. The fight raged on only concluding in a final rush to the Web. Peni had made it, having to leave behind SP//dr after a fight with Namor and Jeff. With a press of a button, the sky was engulfed in a white light.

In the next second all of reality was falling apart. Her plan had failed and her rash judgement would have doomed all if not for the intervention from Jeff, wielding a trident amped by Chronovium which he plunged straight into the heart of CyberSpace, providing the energy needed to repair the Web once and for all. Left with failure and learning that Spider-Man could not replace the father she lost, Peni was forced to reach a realization. Above all else, she wasn’t alone… none of them were. In the end they found family in each other, being able to help and learn from one another. She’d fix the Timestream Entanglement and save the multiverse and with a crew this big, not even Doctor Doom would be able to rival them for long.

Experience & Skill

D.Va

Despite her young age, D.Va is anything but incapable when on the battlefield.  D.Va’s reflexes were already the whole reason she had been recruited, and now she had an entire country training her.  Training from South Korea’s military would already be more than enough to put Hana on a level above the rest, but it’s through help specifically from Captain Myung that D.Va was elevated to the elite.  She’s also receiving training right now as a member of Overwatch, which is probably the best training you can get.

Even outside of the training she’s received, Hana is seemingly a natural when it comes to combat.  She’s competitive to a fault, refusing to go down fighting, even if it means forcing a win in a 1v5 (Do not try this or I will strangle you), and is ready for combat even when a last second attack occurs.  After joining the newly reforming Overwatch, she only furthered her experience through aiding in the fight against Null Sector’s invasion of Toronto, and has probably done more fights that we don’t know of (Thanks Blizzard).

Peni Parker

While she hasn’t been in the hero game as long as her peers, Peni has faced her fair share of challenges and has overcome all of them. While we don’t have an exact timeframe, it has likely been years since her fathers death and her taking on the SP//dr mech. From what we’ve seen in the Timestream Entanglement, Peni has kept up with fighters such as Iron Fist or Thor, characters who have trained most of their lives. However, Peni’s strong suit is absolutely her intelligence. She routinely upgrades SP//dr’s interface and weapons, has created tech that's considered impressive on Wakana, and has actually figured out some of the secrets of Chronovium; a feat that’s only been done by Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Shuri and Doom himself.

Arsenal

D.Va

Tokki

D.va’s mech suit she brings into combat, sometimes referred to as Tokki (which translates to rabbit) is an extremely durable battle constantly being improved.  The exterior, while not invulnerable, is heavily resilient against damage, while the visor displays important statistics of the mech such as vitals and aim improvement, as well as the ability to stream battles. As far as combat itself goes, the mech is powered by a reactor core, which allows for the use of multiple features.

Fusion Cannons

Dual, short ranged rotating cannons, the fusion cannons shotgun style energy blasts at a continuous rate of fire at enemies.  Though they hardly deal any damage at a distance, they pack a punch up close and the ammunition amount is infinite.

Micro Missiles

'

Taking a page out of Pharah’s ultimate, D.Va is capable of firing a volley of miniature rockets at enemies.  They travel incredibly fast and seem to have somewhat of a homing system as they’ll target opponents, though they won’t chase opponents who dodge them.

Defense Matrix

The bane of… basically anyone who plays this game, Defense Matrix is easily D.Va’s most versatile tool.  D.Va basically projects a 10 meter whatever that thing is, and while in game it might look like she’s just deleting the projectile from existence, cinematics show that Defense Matrix seems to shoot down any projectiles that enter it.  This also makes it very questionable how she can shoot down a little ball of fire, but not a rock.  Anyways, she can gun down most attacks unless they're melee attacks or beams.

Self-Destruct

“Nerf this!”

Remember how it was mentioned that Tokki is powered by a nuclear reactor core? Well… said core can also be weaponized if it becomes unstable (mostly through the mech taking too much damage) resulting in a massive explosion in the process. Usually in gameplay this is used if a D.Va gets De-Mech near a group of enemies, but it can also be used in tandem with the boosters to send it flying like an express delivery package. While this does destroy the mech in the process, D.va luckily has a solution.

Recall

If she ever loses her mech whether through sustaining damage or using self destruct, Hana can always just call in another mech to her aid. Since the mech comes in from the sky, anyone caught in the drop zone will be damaged by the impact.

Light Gun

Even when outside of her mech, D.Va isn’t completely helpless, as she comes equipped with the Light Gun.  Though its damage output and ammo clip may not be the most impressive, it has an incredibly fast fire rate, allowing it to get the job done when D.Va doesn’t have her mech.

Peni Parker

SP//dr

Inherited from her father, Peni pilots the SP//dr Exoskeleton. The armor enhances her abilities to superhuman levels and houses Peni’s weapons. SP//dr’s plating is composed of carbon nano fibers, making it “Magneto Proof”.

Web-Shooters

Being a part of the wider Spider-Verse, it wouldn’t make sense if Peni couldn’t do whatever a spider can. For that exact purpose, SP//dr comes equipped with web shooters, allowing her to swing around and traverse battlegrounds with ease.

Cyber-Web Cluster

Peni’s primary fire, SP//dr shoots out web clusters from its shoulder canons at high speeds, essentially functioning like a web bullet.

Cyber-Web Snare

Peni throws out a bionic web, either using it to hit opponents or spreading it on the ground. This web will immobilize enemies if it directly hits them, or create a cyber-web if it hits the ground or a surrounding. She can create a max of 3 cyber-webs on the ground, and when Peni is inside of the web, it will heal her or give her a speed boost. She can also tether herself to the webs for quick traversal or anchoring herself down, making the webs a supremely versatile tool.

Bionic Spider-Nest

Peni creates a Spider-Nest which infinitely generates both Cyber-Webs and Spider-Drones, the latter of which will scurry around and explode on anyone who comes into range. Within range of the nest, Penny retains the same healing properties as her general Cyber-Webs, which can also create overhealth/armor for further defense.

Arachno-Mine

The Sp//dr armor deploys small Spider-Drones which serve as landmines. She can spawn up to four at a time and can conceal them with her webs, making them indestructible and invisible.

Spider-Sweeper

For her ultimate attack, Peni powers up the Sp//dr armor and sprints around at full speed, plowing through her targets. In her wake she leaves both Cyber-Webs and Spider-Drones. They retain the same effects as before but spawn at a far faster rate.

Team-Ups

A core part of Rivals’ gameplay is team-ups: abilities that are unlocked when two heroes work together. While these can’t be used without other heroes in gameplay, it is not the same for lore. You can decide for yourself if these should be used, but they will be listed regardless.

Symbiote Bond (Venom): Due to the codexes left behind in both Peni and Spider-man, they are able to access the power of any symbioteallowing them to generate tendrils despite not having a symbiote on them. Despite its power, it does come at the risk of potentially losing themselves to Knull and the symbiote hivemind.

Armored Spider-Nest (Rocket and Star-Lord): Similar to her base Spider-Nest, Peni can create an upgraded spawner that in addition to creating drones, can create armor packs that toughen herself and allies up.

Abilities

D.Va

Perks

Added in Season 15 of Overwatch 2, Perks are upgrades that can be applied to a character’s main abilities over the course of a battle.  Given that they’re a core part of the game and can be found in every game mode (except Stadium), it’s not unreasonable to give D.Va her perks in this case.

  • Bunny Power (Minor Perk) - Grants D.Va 75 extra health when ejecting from her mech, and increases the damage radius of Call Mech by 50%
  • Extended Boosters (Minor Perk) - Extends the flight duration of Boosters by 0.5 seconds when hitting an enemy
  • Shield System (Major Perk) - Converts 150 base health into shields (basically regenerating health).  Damage absorbed by Defense Matrix restores 25% of shield health
  • Precision Fusion (Major Perk) - Reduces the spread of Fusion Canons by 75%

Tank Passive

In Overwatch, each role is given a class specific passive that gives them a slight advantage. Being a part of the Tank role, D.Va takes reduced knockback from attacks and takes 25% less damage from headshots.

Resistances

  • Heat: Can withstand being set on fire by Ashe’s Dynamite, Mauga’s Incendiary Chaingun, and Torbjorn’s Molten Core
  • Stuns: Tanks like D.Va recover from stuns such as Cassidy’s Flashbang and Ana’s Sleep Dart much faster than other characters
  • Freezing: Is immune to the freezing effects of Mei’s Endothermic Blaster
  • Hacking (to a degree): D.Va’s mech can remain fairly functional even when hacked by Sombra
  • Poison: Can survive the effects of Widowmaker’s Venom Mine (How does a mech even get poisoned?)

Peni Parker

Spider-Sense / Psychic Link

Peni shares a psychic connection to the Spider that bit her and resides within the SP//dr mech. While not the strongest bond, it allows them to communicate mentally. The Spider uses her own telepathic bond to actually control the SP//dr mech, with Peni’s influence being more ‘guy in the chair’.

Resistances

  • Hacking: An alternate universe Peni’s version of SP//dr, made out of scrap and car parts, was able to counteract and resist Ultron’s technovirus.
  • Heat: Rivals heroes are able to fight and survive attacks from Human Torch, even when he reaches supernova.
  • Radiation: The heroes in Rivals are completely fine with the radiation from being around and hit by direct Gamma blasts from Hulk.

Scaling

D.Va

Overwatch Agents

It should go without saying that D.Va can scale to her fellow overwatch members who she’s consistently fought alongside, she’s a tank after all and there’s no reason to assume any of them are greatly above her.

Villains

In her time with Overwatch, D.Va has consistently helped fight against Talon and Null Sector and should reasonably scale to all their members or scale to one of her fellow Overwatch agents who do.

Peni Parker

Vanguards

As a member of the Vanguard class herself, Peni and her Sp//dr mech have shown scaling both in game and in lore to their fellow tanks. While there are some higher questionable feats, she should be mostly comparable to everyone here.

Duelists

The team you’ll see the most of in Rivals are the Duelists. As expected, Vanguards and Duelists have come to head numerous times so scaling between them is mostly viable. Not every Duelist has feats worth mentioning, so only the important ones will be listed.

Strategists

The Strategists are the weakest of the three classes and have fought both Duelists and Vanguards alike, so Peni should scale to or upscale most of their feats.

Villains

These are the main villains that the heroes fight against in the actual story/lore segments of the game. Characters such as Blade use Dracula’s own weapons and have fought other villains to warrant scaling.

Weaknesses

D.Va

D.Va is undeniably an impressive pilot and a valuable asset to Overwatch, but she’s far from flawless. Being only 19 years old, her experience is relatively limited, which has led to her being a bit reckless on multiple occasions. She also tends to put a lot of pressure on herself, sometimes more than she should be, which has led to her refusing to flee from fights where she was on the backfoot.

Peni Parker

Peni hasn’t been a hero for long and has no formal combat experience outside of work. While she tries her best, she’s let the weight of her responsibilities bring her down more than once; even clouding her sense of judgement and almost risking the multiverse on guess work.

Before The Verdict

Sigma and his Black Holes

The black holes that Sigma has created are pretty easily the best feats the Overwatch cast can scale to and are thus fairly complicated to discuss, so let’s break some things down. Firstly, we know they are real black holes, they obviously look the part, they warp space around them, and most importantly, Siebren(Sigma before he went crazy) was a genuine astrophysicist before he went insane, so if he says it’s a black hole then I’m inclined to believe him. Since the black holes are valid, that opens up two feats for us to use, Siebren's initial survival of the black hole in his experiment and Sigma’s creation of black holes.

While both feats are valid, the scaling gets a little weird. It’s important to note that gameplay in Overwatch is blatantly non-canon and cannot coexist with the actual story and lore of the game. So while the cast can defeat Sigma in game, there needs to be more solid evidence for them to scale to either of these feats. Luckily for us, Siebren’s black hole survival is very easy to scale the entirety of the game's characters to because well, he’s just a normal guy. This was before he unlocked his gravity powers or received his tech from Talon, the only way the Overwatch cast wouldn’t scale to this if we said they were all weaker than some run of the mill scientist, so given the cast consists of numerous superhumans, a gorilla, and a mech, it’s safe to say they’d all not only scale to but upscale this feat by quite a bit.

However, Sigma’s creation of black holes isn’t as easy to scale to. By the time of becoming Sigma, Siebren now has actual superpowers meaning we can’t just assume the cast would scale. This becomes an issue because in the series’ story, Sigma has never fought anyone else in the roster. Hell, we've never even seen him fight at all, which is actually fitting considering his role at Talon is that of a researcher, not a soldier. Now due to how Sigma’s abilities all trace back to his control over gravity, if anyone eventually does fight him in lore it’s very likely for this scaling to become valid as long as the character doesn’t just instantly die. Though at that point we would have to talk about how the jump from city level to planetary makes it a pretty obvious outlier but that’s a discussion for if Blizzard ever actually does anything with this character. So while Siebren surviving the black hole is valid and will be used for D.Va , Sigma's creation of black holes simply has no way to be scaled to at the current time and even if there was, it’s an obvious outlier.

MFTL Marvel Rivals

There are multiple FTL speed feats in Rivals, but those that get higher than the baseline are likely unusable. Adam Warlock’s cocoon does not have a time frame, nor was it actually him physically moving. The cocoon is essentially just a pod he can rest and regenerate within, without him actually controlling where it goes. Other feats such as Jean Grey flying across the galaxy and Symbiotes crossing the stars are likely MFTL+, but lack timeframes. Even with timeframes the latter would be an outlier compared to Iron Fist blocking Dagger’s attacks, while the former comes from a character that is consistently placed above the cast in lore.

Jean Grey & The Scarlet Witch

Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force are some of the newest heroes among the Rivals rosters, and likely the strongest. Consistently across game lore, interactions, and cinematics she is portrayed as above everyone else to the point that there shouldn’t be any comparison, outside of a few potential characters. The few times where Phoenix has been rivaled in lore are with Knull, Hela, and Scarlet Witch, with their reasoning below:

Additionally, these reasons for not scaling to Phoenix can also apply to Scarlet Witch. The Witch we follow in the game is a master of Chaos Magic, a Sorcerer Supreme who surpasses Dr. Strange, has defeated the Old Ones, and has her power divided between upholding reality and actual fighting. With this in mind, full scaling to either Jean or Wanda should be mostly out of the question, but there is a way for other characters to downscale.

In Season 3 of Rivals, Knull’s conquest leads some of the cast to be taken over by symbiotes. A series of events leads for the other half of the cast to be coated in the Phoenix force egg’s essence and shards, splitting its power between them. This leads to an all out war between the two factions, showcasing that symbiote possessed heroes could in fact take on those with fractions of the Phoenix. It should also be noted that even just simply combining the Symbiote and Phoenix powers, it could overpower both sides. How does this tie back to Peni? Two ways: Peni’s team up allowing her to use a symbiote for a couple seconds, or scaling her to Venom. Both of these options are fine, so Phoenix’s feats of vaporizing planets should apply.

Jeff of the Seven Seas

You’ve probably seen or heard a lot of jokes about Jeff in Marvel Rivals and as it turns out, they’re actually true. Jeff doesn’t have too many feats to scale to but what he does have should realistically be above a majority if not all of the cast. Which ones? Well, Jeff was able to casually consume the Gem of Cyttorak and a Cosmic Cube; even the Infinity Gems in this instance. Not only that but Jeff’s body has its power amplified by Pym Particles, which is how he can eat an entire team in one go.

Jeff’s greatest feat comes from the comic, as he and several other heroes were attempting to fix the Web of Life and Destiny with Chronovium. During this fight, Namor’s spear had been amplified by Chronovium to be able to pull the Web back together at the risk of potentially blowing up the multiverse. When all hope of this plan going through seems lost, Jeff steps up and grabs Namor’s spear and plunges himself into the Web. An explosion of Chronovium occurs, repairing the Web and pulling back the infinite timelines. Several people there and even Peni herself believed they would have died in that explosion, and yet Jeff came out unscathed despite not being protected by Chronovium.

So why can’t the cast scale? Outside of them saying they would have died in his position, there are a LOT of examples of him being above the other heroes. During the fight for the Web of Life and Destiny, Jeff when using his team up with Luna Snow was able to overpower Hulk and Dr. Strange to the point they resorted to retreating instead of trying to win. Jeff was able to fight Ultron, overpowering and defeating him with no effort; even being able to do the same to X-Tron, who snapped Magik’s neck casually. In a fight with Groot, Jeff one shot him so hard he exploded into splinters, with only his arm being left behind. On top of all of this, the only times Jeff has actually been kept up with in canon is a pot shot from Hulk and when characters were equally amplified by Symbiotes and the Phoenix Force. There are problems here as well, even assuming symbiotes did upscale Jeff, it would be inconsistent with the rest of these showings.

Why Skin exclusive feats?

You may notice that we are using feats for specific skins when it comes to Marvel Rivals, but not Overwatch, why is that? Well, each and every skin is either a canon variant or upgrade that the Rivals heroes have interacted with or achieved. Below are some examples of skins and their place canonically.

GOTHIC RETURN - SEASON 1: ETERNAL NIGHT FALLS

ULTRON VIRUS - SEASON 2: HELLFIRE GALA

PHOENIX FORCE AND KLYNTAR WARRIORS - SEASON 3: THE ABYSS AWAKENS

IMMORTAL WEAPON - SEASON 4: IMMORTAL BEASTS

With all this considered, it’s clear that numerous skins have a reason to exist in lore and to be viable. On top of this there is an argument to be made that the interactions and fights in Rivals are all canon. Although there is no official confirmation, there are multiple statements that the multiverse was essentially destroyed and remade by Doom, fusing universes and bringing over characters from timelines such as 2099 into the fray with everyone remaining trying to fix it. Additionally, characters have met their other counterparts as Spider-Man has had a run in with both the Spider-Punk and Bag-Man variants of himself. Galacta has even noted that there are millions of heroes fighting to undo the Timestream Entanglement and fix their universes, even fighting Hero against Hero to do so, which is obviously referencing the in-game matches of Marvel Rivals.

Doctor Doom(s)

This will be even faster than the Phoenix section. No one really scales to either Doom, both of them are the main villains and are in lore shown to be above most of the cast. They have also one shot several previous villains who have given the main cast a fair share of trouble. It is also good to note their higher feats are done via Chronovinium, which you could argue doesn’t scale to their physical abilities anyway.

Verdict

Stats

The most complicated category to go over is stats, but the advantages here are pretty clear cut on both ends. Starting with D.Va, her best scaling for strength always comes back to Titan Omnics. Reinhardt and Brigette can block their lasers, which have previously destroyed large sections of a building, reaching up to 2.3 kilotons of TNT. Genji though can cut clean through the Titan Omnic and D.Va can survive multiple slashes of his along with generally being comparable to the ninja. Being able to cut through the omnic would put him on par with Torbjorn's mama core turrets that the Titan Omnics could survive, and those turret's power source is compared to a volcanic eruption, which would put their maximum output around 33 Megatons of TNT. With feats like this in mind, D.Va can safely be put around Town to City levels of power. This is nothing to scoff at, but, Peni and SP//dr pretty safely blow this out of the water.

On the lower ends, Peni has consistently fought tanks such as Thor and Strange, the former of which being able to survive his drop from space that created an explosion that scorched for a thousand feet, a feat worth 284 tons of TNT. She can also easily scale to Namor, who could shake the entirety of Jeju Island, creating a Tsunami as a result, which would require around 4 Megatons of TNT. So even with just lower end scaling, Peni is already able to keep up in the city level ranges. However, this is again only her low ends, and from here it gets really bad for D.Va.

SP//dr has shown itself comparable to a majority of the cast and she should easily scale to her fellow duelists. This would include Wolverine, who in his blood berserker state could slice the moon in half with a force of 290 petatons of TNT. Or Blade who scales to Dracula; who in order to cause an eternal night, moved the moon with a kinetic energy equal to 169 yottatons of TNT. Additionally, like the other Spider-warriors, she’s had her fair share of symbiotes and scales to them. While not as strong as the full Phoenix, they are clearly as powerful as fragments of it, with the Phoenix’s casual feats being able to vaporize entire planets. So all of these should get Peni into a near cosmic range that majorly outclass any of the city level showings D.Va and Overwatch cast are capable of putting out in power.

However there is an argument you could make for higher Overwatch stats through Sigma. While Siebren surviving the black hole he created only gets 21 megatons of TNT, he became a lot more powerful after the incident. With his new gravity powers, Sigma is able to create black holes himself which would require an energy of 525 Zettatons of TNT! If we scaled D.Va to this then she would be able to similarly get up to planetary levels of power, but there’s two notable issues. For starters, as said before the verdict, scaling characters to Sigma is a hard sell given he’s never actually fought any of them in the lore. While you could potentially lean on gameplay for scaling, unlike Rivals, Overwatch’s in-game matches cannot really coexist with the series’ story and thus makes the scaling unreliable. More damningly though, even if D.Va is scaled to the black holes, Peni has her own black holes she can scale to, and putting them side by side shows…

Yeaaaaah not looking good. Now because Adam Warlock’s new cosmic skin only released literally last week, we unfortunately don’t have a calculation for it. But ultimately one isn’t really needed for the comparison, just looking at the scale between the two paints the picture clear. Sigma's black holes can fit into the palm of his hand while Cosmic Warlock’s black holes grow significantly larger than both his hand and whole body. Even if we want to use the larger black holes Sigma has created exclusively in emotes, they still pale into comparison to Adam Warlock's surpassing entire space ships and asteroids in size; of the two black holes, only one is operating on a cosmic scale. And that’s really what the power advantage comes down to, D.Va is by no means weak but the Overwatch series just doesn’t operate on the same scale as a series like Marvel Rivals. The greatest threat D.Va has ever had to contend with are invasions of omnics while Peni is out here dealing with the multiverse, gods, planetary threats, fractured timelines, etc etc.

On the topic of that, while Large Planet is where we will be capping Peni at in this verdict, it should be noted that you may be able to argue higher. Hela directly states that her realm, which she draws power from, would stop the timestream entanglement if she fused it with Yggsgard’s power, and given Luna Snow defeated her in battle, you could potentially argue Peni is capable of matching this level of power. Now we won’t be using that because holy overkill but it does reinforce the sheer difference in scale these two operate on.

However, while Peni takes a sizable edge in strength, speed is a very different story. Starting with D.Va, MFTL+ Overwatch has been discussed ad nauseam so we’ve elected to not put too much of a focus on it, but ultimately it should be valid. As we all know by now, omnics have been stated to be able to perceive events down to the picosecond, and given the Overwatch cast consistently fight entire invasions of them makes it very easy to scale them to it. Now it should be noted that nobody in the verse actually scales to the normal perception speed of omnics, we’ve never seen a character outright surpass their perception in speed, however the cast does outspeed their reactions on numerous occasions. By applying the average ratio of processing speed to reaction speed, we can get the combat speed of omnics to roughly 173 times faster than light. This is backed up by other faster than light feats like both Juno and Genji blocking lasers, which get 4.3 and 5.2 times faster than light respectively.

On Peni’s side of things, while there are MFTL+ feats for Marvel Rivals, they suffer from no timeframes and an inability to be scaled to, making them ultimately unusable for her. This leaves her best speed scaling to feats like Iron Fist blocking Dagger’s lightforce attacks and characters dodging Hulk’s gamma rays, both of which would get somewhere around lightspeed. For all intents and purposes, Iron Fist and Genji's blocking feats are essentially the same feat of blocking light speed attacks within a radius, so Peni should be comparable to D.Va’s faster than light scaling. However, she has nothing to match up to the Overwatch cast consistently scaling to the MFTL reactions of omnics, that alongside Tokki being generally more maneuverable than Sp//dr means that speed should safely fall onto D.Vas side.

So in the end we have Peni taking strength and D.Va taking speed, so who gets the edge here? Well let’s compare the gaps in their stats. Starting with speed, D.Va is scaling to 173c while Peni can generously be put around 5.2c, leaving us with D.Va being roughly 33x faster. Now that’s an insane difference in speed, D.Va will be literally flying circles around Peni here, but the gap in power blows it out of the water. D.Va’s best reliable scaling comes from the Titan Omnics surviving Torbjorn's turrets, which gets up to 33 megatons of TNT, meanwhile Peni scaling to Dracula's moon moving nets her a power of 169 yottatons of TNT. The difference between those two numbers is roughly 5 quintillion! Even factoring in the shaky Sigma scaling would leave her around 300 times weaker, no matter how fast she is, D.Va simply cannot overcome the sheer gap in power, giving the point here to Peni Parker.

Mechs

While we could leave the verdict there, these two characters still have a lot more interesting parts that we’d like to discuss, for example: if we ignore stats, who’s mech is actually superior?

Well as we already addressed in the speed portion, Tokki is definitely the more mobile of the robots, but don’t count SP//dr out though as it has edges of its own here. The mech is far from grounded with its wall climbing and web swinging allowing Peni great horizontal movement, and in terms of just pure running speed it definitely has Tokki beaten, if this was just a 100 meter dash between the two mechs, SP//dr would sweep with relative ease since Tokki relies mostly on its thrusters for speed. However those thrusters are really all it needs to take the edge in mobility, generally speaking flight is just a far more efficient traversal method than web swinging or wall crawling because it doesn’t rely on surroundings. D.Va will always be able to use her mobility to its fullest regardless of the location, while Peni has to rely on surroundings to make full use of her kit. It should also be noted that SP//dr doesn’t have the same efficiency with its web swinging as a character like Spider-Man, it’s obviously a much larger body and therefore can’t use its swinging for much beyond pulling her towards a destination, which D.Va will always do better in thanks to her flight letting her access greater heights than Peni’s ever reached. So while both have their own advantages, maneuverability should overall go to Tokki.

But how about their arsenals, who has the better tools? Well you’ll be surprised to find that they actually match up practically dead even in this regard, but on opposite ends. Tokki has a significant edge in ranged combat, her flight gives her better movement throughout the battlefield and she has more options for damaging Peni from afar. While Tokki’s fusion canons aren’t very good from afar since they operate like shotgun blasts, they still work to whittle down opponents from range, and Tokki’s micro missiles serve as an extremely effective ranged weapon that can easily hit SP//dr from afar while also cleaning up any spider-drones not hiding in her cyber-webs. Tokki’s biggest advantage at a distance though is its defense matrix, SP//drs ranged capabilities already aren’t that notable, but with the defense matrix D.Va can easily shoot down any of Peni’s cyber clusters, while SP//dr doesn’t have a solid counter to Tokki’s ranged options in return. However, this completely shifts once they enter close range. This is SP//dr’s bread and butter, its kit excels at controlling the space around it with its cyber-nests and webs. If Tokki decides to close in, it’s at an immediate disadvantage with the spider mines and drones being a constant threat in close quarters that D.Va would not have an answer for. Additionally, the cyber webs would provide SP//dr with constant healing and a speed bonus, making prolonged combat within them only favor Peni, especially since her mech would destroy in fisticuffs. While both mechs rarely ever rely on it, if an exchange in close quarters combat ever did occur, SP//dr is very clearly better suited. It’s taller and has far longer limbs meaning it will have greater control over a close quarters fight, and with her ultimate she can sprout even longer limbs from her back to enforce her better range even more. Tokki is just very clearly not meant for physical combat, and compared to SP//dr’s larger and better build, it naturally falls short in close quarters. So with D.Va having a better arsenal at range, and Peni having a better arsenal for up close, this factor ultimately ends up evening out.

So with arsenals being equal, there’s still one more factor to consider, the mech's longevity. While SP//dr is the only one of the two that can heal itself mid battle, Tokki is overall still more useful as the fight goes on for two reasons. Firstly, with its self-destruct function, Tokki is the only one out of the two mechs that can still be useful if put into a state where it can’t fight anymore, and that leads into its major advantage here. D.Va is the only one of the two with a backup method for when her mech is gone. D.Va’s recall means that even if Tokki is destroyed by SP//dr or by blowing itself up, she has a method of getting another mech to continue the fight. Peni conversely doesn’t have an answer for if SP//dr is ever destroyed, giving Tokki the clear advantage in longevity.

So while their arsenals may even out depending on the range the fight takes place in, Tokki takes a clear edge in maneuverability and longevity, meaning that in a close race, D.Va manages to edge out in terms of mechs.

Pilots

With Peni taking stats and D.Va taking mechs, it’s down to our final comparison: the Pilots. To start off, D.Va would easily defeat Peni if they ever fought outside of their mechs. Peni definitely doesn’t physically scale to her higher feats and lacks a way to properly defend herself in hand to hand. While SP//dr can be piloted remotely by the psychic spider, it doesn’t help too much since it’d have to reach and help Peni before D.Va just uses her gun. However, this requires getting Peni out of SP//dr. Due to her vastly inferior power, even when using Sigma scaling, it is highly unlikely for D.Va to have this situation play out this way. Even self-destructing wouldn’t help considering Peni can get out of its range by swinging away or climbing the terrain.

This means that Peni can put her skills where it really counts: her intelligence. D.Va’s no idiot but Peni is a far smarter strategist when it comes to her fights, and SP//dr’s abilities let her capitalize off of this perfectly. Peni’s general gameplan is creating an area full of Cyber Webs and Spider-Drones/Bombs, creating a space that essentially defends her at all times. D.Va would have trouble dealing with this kind of strategy as she can’t eliminate Peni’s defenses from afar due to the Cyber Webs making the bombs both invisible and invulnerable. Additionally, remember that D.Va plays as a dive tank, her job in the game is to charge towards teams and disrupt their back lines, with her head on approach in official cinematics supporting this playstyle. With this kind of game plan, she plays herself perfectly into Peni’s defensive playstyle and can easily put both her mech and herself at risk of being taken out by her bombs or drones. And if she’s caught outside her mech in the cyber webs, she’d be blown to smithereens without a chance to make a counterattack.

As for experience, while Peni has been a hero and mech pilot for a lesser amount of time, she has had to face a far more varied amount of threats than Hana has. Despite having been a pilot for a longer period, and D.Va has only really faced one kind of enemy, omnics, while there’s certainly many different kinds of omnics that she has defeated, it doesn’t measure up to the amount of variety in the different heroes Peni has faced in her time. Remember back to the comparison in scale, Peni simply faces a wider and grander set of threats than Hana has had to deal with, making her more likely to be prepared for a fight like this.

On top of everything else, Peni isn’t alone when it comes to piloting. SP//dr can pilot itself without Peni’s influence, being the one who actually controls the combat settings of the mech while Peni guides it with plans and activates its abilities. This means that in this battle it's two on one in terms of piloting. With everything considered on both sides, we’ve come to the conclusion that Peni and SP//dr should take this category.

Conclusion

D.Va

Advantages:

+ Significantly Faster with much better mobility options

+ Generally superior mech

+ Better ranged options
+ Could beat Peni if she gets her out of SP//dr…

Disadvantages:
- Far Weaker

- Falls short in the intelligence department

- ...But Sp//dr being able to be controlled remotely means she would still struggle

Peni Parker

Advantages:

+ Absurdly stronger

+ Smarter and better experienced

+ Greater control of the battlefield

+  Healing options allow her to mitigate damage she may take from D.Va
+ SP//dr can move and protect Peni if she ended up outside the mech

Disadvantages:

- Far slower and less mobile

- Significantly less capable outside of her mech
- Lacks a backup option if her mech is destroyed

When all the chips are down and selections are locked in, this match shows a fairly clear conclusion. D.Va is certainly no slouch in this race, being much faster and Tokki being a slightly superior mech than SP//dr mechanically. Despite that, her advantages can only take her so far against Peni’s overwhelming strength advantage, she simply doesn’t have any reliable way past the gap in stats. Peni isn’t only relying on strength either, with her far better control of the battlefield and D.Va’s dive playstyle being countered by her defensive tactics and superiority in close range, she has more than enough ways to get Hana in close to finish her off with her far superior firepower. The next balance patch might come and shake things up when one gets nerfed to the ground and fans smash their desks to pieces, but as it stands, Peni Parker takes the crown of MVP in this match, while Hana Song was left…”mech’ed”!

Final Tally

D.Va (0) - (gg no re)

Peni Parker (5) - Trashy, Adam, Cadendamonkay, Grandbull, Strangefate
